Townsville location

Our backpacker hostel, The Civic Guest House, is centrally located in Townsville CBD, a short 5-minute stroll to Flinders Mall, City Lane Restaurant and the famous Castle Hill ‘Goat Track’. The Townsville Strand waterfront is a 15-minute stroll, as is the new Cowboys home ground Stadium and Palmer Street restaurant precinct

We offer a FREE shuttle service 10am and 11am, 2:15pm and 7:15pm to/from the Greyhound bus station and ferry terminal to Magnetic Island. Please note that pick-ups and drop-offs need to be booked prior to arrival/departure. Simply contact us on (07) 4771 5381 or email: info@civicguesthouse.com.au

Outside of these hours you can catch the city bus 200 or 201, which will pick you up in front of the Greyhound/ferry terminal and drop you off one block away (Stanley street) from the hostel for $1.80.

Directions to our hostel

From the Townsville airport, the airport shuttle bus will drop you off in front of our backpacker hostel, The Civic Guest House for $10. Their counter is located on the right side of the main exit door near the baggage claim area. Alternatively, a taxi/uber will cost you between $20 and $25. Make sure to ask the driver to go via Ingham Road as it makes it a shorter ride.

If you are arriving by car, follow the signs to downtown. Walker Street is one street back from the main street (Sturt Street).

If you are walking from the Greyhound terminal, walk towards town past the Reef HQ Aquarium and follow Flinders Street until you hit Stanley Street. Turn right into Stanley and then left into Walker Street.

Free parking for our backpackers

Parking on the street in front of the hostel is free from 5pm to 9am on weekdays and free on weekends. Alternatively, there is a free unlimited car park a short 3-minute walk away, which can be used during the day. Simply ask reception upon arrival.
